De-cluttering

De-cluttering is an important thing to do before packing. It gives you the opportunity to decide on what things you would be bringing to the new house and what you want to leave behind. Remember that de-cluttering will give you more space on your new house and you can get rid of emotional baggage. Doing this will also lower the cost of your moving expenses.

An average 4-person house may require at least a seven-ton van to move but if your house was not de-cluttered, you may need twice of that to move the belongings. De-cluttering is necessary when moving to a new house and moving to a new house is the best time to do so. Most of the people actually de-clutter only when they are moving.

It is tough to get rid of things that have sentimental values. But moving to a new house may actually mean that you also need to get rid of your old items that are no longer in use. While you are de-cluttering, you may be surprised that 20 - 30% of your items are just trash and things that you don't need. So what do you do with these items? You can give it to charity or you can sell them in eBay or other auction sites to make extra cash. But if you are not that tech savvy and not familiar with these auction sites, you can do it the old fashion way, which is doing a garage sale. Most of these items will no longer be useful for you but maybe useful to others.
